The Font is still used to baptise people of all ages into the Church. Symbolically sited at the doorway because baptism marks the entry into the family of the Church, the font at St Helens Parish Church is a magificent and large example! Made of blue hornton stone, a variety of ironstone from Oxfordshire, on each of the four sides you can see: the Lancastrian rose, the Monogram of St Helens, The Lamb and the Book. Symbols which speak to the important place of this font in both the Christian and local stories.
The font was donated by Mr Richard Pilkington in memory of his wife. The font canopy was donated by Mrs Lea, in memory of her husband’s forty years worth of work with children.
